When I came across Aikido it was a revelation because right from the first lesson it was life changing. Without experiencing it, it is very hard to describe. Suffice to say Aikido is not just a system of self defence. If you pay attention and practice you will learn physical and mental skills that can be applied every day for the rest of your life. If that sounds complex, it is but Sensei Mark is superb at breaking it down into incremental steps. In addition he sets clear and attainable goals, combines tradition and formality with a relaxed and approachable attitude, and above all makes each lesson fun for both senior and junior students. The facility is safe, secure, warm, well lit and modern with ample free car parking. The lesson planning allows for holidays and other commitments. All in all this represents excellent value for money.

Sensei Mark genuinely cares for his students and teaches beyond the learning of Aikido. He takes a life approach to the art and teaches his students to be citizens of a society. My children love it and never complain about going to the Dojo for their Aikido lessons. He has a very flexible grading system, taking the classes and making up lost lessons. I recommend this business to any of my friends and colleagues.

Our family now spends a lot of time at Shudokan Aikido Lincoln as my husband, son (6) and daughter (4) are all members of this very well managed club. My son has been attending the club for nearly two years now and Aikido is his favourite out-of school activity and he now chooses to train two nights a week, as does my husband. Sensei Mark has inspired us all as he is a fantastic teacher and encourages strong links between school, home and Shudokan Aikido Lincoln. It is more than about keeping fit and healthy and learning how to defend yourself if necessary - it is a whole philosophy and way of living, demonstrating respect, good manners and self discipline. As a linguist myself, I am also impressed by the amount of Japanese my children are picking up through the lessons, which are brilliantly structured, fun and inspirational. We always have plenty to discuss about Aikido as a family at home and it has brought us all even closer together as we can all get involved.

A really top class facility on the southside of Lincoln. My 9 year-old son has been attending since he was 5 and, like all his mates, has improved amazingly quickly since the Dojo was established. Well run by Sensei Mark and his enthusiastic team, fun and full of positive energy, it really is a great place to learn a new skill and stay healthy. Self-discipline, self-defence and self-confidence are all intertwined here and I recommend it highly to all ages.

My 11 year old daughter has been going to this Aikido Academy since November 2008 and she loves every minute! The atmosphere is always positive, happy, reassuring and helpful. The teacher,Sensei Mark is an extremely good role model for his pupils. He manages to combine great teaching skills with kindness, frankness and humour. He is fair and gives the same maximum attention to each and every one of his students. I am very grateful to this academy for giving my daughter more confidence both in this wonderful martial art and in her daily life. I am also a much more confident parent knowing she is learning to defend herself in this not so forgiving society we live in. Thanks so much for such a truly worthwhile place for my child to learn.

I have recently started learning Aikido and am enjoying every lesson, I find it a great alternative to the boring gym and am learning new skills constantly, the atmosphere is friendly and the instruction is very understanding. I will be going for my first belt in a few weeks and can't wait! Thanks Sensei Mark.

My son, now 5, joined Shudokan Akido Lincoln just over a year ago on the recommendation of a friend and neighbour. In the last year, I have seen my son grow in both in confidence and physical coordination as well as developing his own self discipline and respect for others. Sensei Mark is an excellent role model and has a firm but fair teaching style that generates respect for both himself and for others in each class. The sessions are fun and informative and I look forward to my younger son joining next year.

I have two children presently aged 5 and 9 attending the Shudokan Aikido, in Lincoln, which has over the last three years provided a great positive influence to them. My daughter age 9, is in the juniors, approaching her grading for her Brown/white belt, my son age 5, holding his own with his Blue Belt in the little Dragons. We watch them at each session and during there grading, with great pride, admiration and awe. Not only does this school teach them the method of self protection, providing them with the techniques to defend themselves should they feel it is necessary, but also through the strong influence and role of Sensei Mark Gott and his assistants, support them in there development of life skills and overall self awareness. All of the above achieved with a smile on their face. Overall good value for money and highly recommended.

My 8 year old son really looks forward to his twice-weekly classes at Sensei Mark's Shudokan. Moving up from belt to belt has given him a great sense of achievement and he looks forward to the regular gradings. The lessons are a great balance between fun and learning. They help to keep him fit and enthusiastic and it is a pleasure to watch his developing determination and self-confidence. Well done Sensei Mark.
